City Council
The City of Fountain is a full-service municipality. Boards such as City Council, Planning Commission, Park & Recreation, and EDC (Economic Development Committees) are all amenable to the needs of the community. In addition, the boards also help project for the city's future growth.
The city is a Home Rule City governed by a mayor and six council members. The term of office is four years for both Mayor and council members. The City Mayor, at-large council members, and members for the wards in which they live are voters elected. Fountain council elections are non-partisan, and the City Manager directs and manages all departments.

At-Large Council Seat-Vacancy Declared
At the Fountain City Council's regular meeting on October 28, members officially declared a vacancy for an At-Large seat on the council, triggering a timeline for interested citizens to fill out and submit an application.
Important Dates:
October 28 – Vacancy declared
October 29 – Application packets available at City Hall
November 12 – 5pm deadline to submit applications at City Hall
November 24 – Packets will be delivered to City Council members for review, following the verification and potential curing of petition signatures
December 9 – City Council members will discuss applicants, make an appointment, and the new appointee will be sworn in
The above timeline was developed in the interest of not influencing the upcoming November 4 election in any way, but also to expedite the appointment process so that the person selected could join the council around the same time as any newly elected council members.
The appointee will serve out the remainder of the unexpired term for this At-Large seat that ends in November 2027.
Any citizens interested in applying for the vacancy can pick up an application packet from the City Clerk’s office at City Hall after 8am on October 29.
